La station de Morzine/Avoriaz

Morzine

Morzine is a commune of the Chablais, in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhone Alpes region of France.

Located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine opens up a wonderful playground for 650 km of slopes in winter. In summer, the slopes become as many marked trails for mountain biking and hiking. As for the immense surrounding spaces of virgin nature, they invite you to escape in complete freedom ...

Morzine, the authentic, has changed with the requirements of tourism while preserving its charm and its traditions.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz, the visionary, today is a pioneer of sustainable development in the Alps.

Originally, Avoriaz - then called "Avorea" - had only a few chalets that the inhabitants of the valley of Morzine occupied in fine weather while they were making their way to the pastures with their flocks. In winter, men and beasts returned to the valley and the hamlet was deserted. Only a few enthusiasts came to face the thick snowpack for the pleasure of skiing down the slopes that overhang the plateau. Among them, Jean Vuarnet - a child of the country renowned for his Olympic title of descent - who will take the direction of the station in 1960 with mission for the development of the snow fields and the resort of Avoriaz. In 1963, the Prodains cable car was inaugurated.

Les Portes du Soleil

The Portes du Soleil is at the begining the idea of a friends group who, 50 years ago, were dreaming of an immense ski resort in the French-Swiss area linked by ski lifts.

Today the Portes du soleil brings together 12 stations shared between France and Switzerland. It is considered to be one of the largest ski areas in the world with more than 650 km of slopes and has 199 ski lifts. The ski area is located on the Val d'Abondance, the valley of Aulps, the Val d'Illiez and the Val de Morgins.
